TASMANIA'S chief prosecutor has been suspended while a charge of causing death by negligent driving against him is dealt with.
Director of Public Prosecutions Tim Ellis has pleaded not guilty to the charge following an accident in March that left 27-year-old Natalia Pearn dead.
Attorney-General Brian Wightman announced on Thursday that Mr Ellis had officially been stood down.
"The Director of Public Prosecutions, Tim Ellis SC, (has) been suspended from the position with full entitlements until the outcome of a charge against him is finalised," a statement from Mr Wightman said.
Mr Ellis, 58, is due to face court again next week.
Police will allege he failed to exercise enough care to prevent his Mercedes from crossing onto the wrong side of the Midland Highway.
